(Subject Title): Boy Shoots Parents Over A Halo Game
(Article):
Daniel Petric picked up a gun one day and lost it (Martinez, 1). His parents decided to take away a violent video game called Halo 3 (Martinez, 1). This caused Daniel to become filled with enough rage to decide to kill both of his parents (Martinez, 1). Daniel knew how to use fire arms from the time he spent hunting with his father (Accused Murderer Daniel, 1). The murder took place at night time in North East Ohio (Martinez, 1).
Daniel blames the video game Halo 3 for the cause of his actions (Accused Murderer Daniel, 1). Daniel would shoot many aliens in the video game in order to move to the next level (Accused Murderer Daniel, 1). The 16 year old assumed that real death is just like a video game according to the report of a judge that was on the case (Martinez, 1). In video games, death is just a temporary break from life. In real life, death is a one way ticket to another world. The judge did not accept Daniel’s excuse of video game violence causing him to try to kill his parents (Martinez, 1).
Daniel’s father was a minister and married (Martinez, 1). The father managed to survive the crisis and attend his son’s trial (Martinez, 1). Daniel shot his mother and father but only managed to kill his mother (Martinez, 1). Daniel’s father had a gun shot wound on his head (Accused Murderer Daniel, 1). The father was very upset with Daniel (Accused Murderer Daniel, 1). His father once said, “he don’t understand why his son did something so terrible (Martinez, 1).” Daniel reported during an interview with ABC News that he blames himself for losing his temper and picking up a gun to kill his parents (Accused Murderer Daniel, 1).
The judge sentenced Daniel Petric to 23 years for Murder (Martinez, 1). Daniel stated in prison that he feels remorse for the actions that took place (Accused Murderer Daniel, 1). But, he also stated that the reason he decided to kill his parents was because of his dad doing things to make him angry (Accused Murderer Daniel, 1). He also states that he doesn’t blame video games for what took place in October 2007 (Accused Murderer Daniel, 1). Anger was the cause to Daniel’s downfall and the cause to many crimes that take place today. In my opinion, we need to treat our kids with love and stop limiting their success in order to prevent a crime like this from happening again.
